On 6th December 2024, Soltilo Bright Stars Football Club (SBS) proudly joined hands with the global movement to combat Gender-Based Violence (GBV) during the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence event. The event was held at the Old Kampala Secondary School grounds. The event was a collaboration between the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the United Nations High Commission For refugees (UNHCR) the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) among other stakeholders.
Sports as a Tool for Change
As part of our commitment to using football as a platform for positive change, Soltilo Bright Stars FC engaged participants in interactive football drills designed to raise awareness about GBV. The drills emphasized the importance of teamwork, mutual respect, and equality, values that transcend the sport and resonate with the broader fight against violence and discrimination. The team was represented by Chief Executive Officer – Harold Atukwatse, Coach Sula Sebunza, Team Medic Afua Namayanja and players Innocent Kitimbo, Sharif Nsereko and Jonathan Odongo
These activities were a powerful reminder of how sports can serve as a unifying force to educate communities and inspire action against societal ills. Through engaging sessions, we highlighted that everyone, regardless of gender, deserves to live free from violence and intimidation.
Condemning Gender-Based Violence
As a club, Soltilo Bright Stars FC unequivocally condemns all forms of gender-based violence. We believe that GBV not only violates human rights but also undermines the social fabric of our communities. Everyone has a role to play in creating a safe and inclusive environment for all, and we are proud to be part of this critical mission.
Gratitude for Collaboration
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to JICA, UNHCR, and KCCA for organizing this impactful event and for inviting Soltilo Bright Stars FC to contribute. Your commitment to addressing GBV is inspiring, and it was an honor for us to join this noble cause. Together, we can amplify the message that violence has no place in our homes, schools, workplaces, or communities.
A Call to Action
As the 16 Days of Activism continues, we urge everyone to reflect on their role in eradicating GBV. Whether through advocacy, education, or support for survivors, each of us has the power to make a difference. At Soltilo Bright Stars FC, we remain steadfast in our commitment to promoting equality, respect, and unity on and off the pitch.
Let us work together to build a world where everyone can thrive in dignity and peace.
