A closely contested match between Soltilo Bright Stars FC and UPDF was played on Monday at the Bombo Military Barracks Ground. UPDF narrowly defeated Soltilo Bright Stars FC 1-0.
Both teams showed off some incredible football skills in the opening minutes of the game, but Jibril Badru Nsimbe’s game-winning goal for the UPDF in the 38th minute gave them the advantage. In the first period, the Soltilo Bright Stars had a chance to take the lead earlier on in the game when Emmanuel Loki’s shot hit the crossbar, but luck was not on their side.
Both teams kept up their offensive pressure in the second half, with Soltilo Bright Stars producing some decent scoring opportunities thanks to Nelson Ssenkatuka and Denis Kaka Umony and Yassin Mugume who nearly tied the score. But the UPDF’s defense held firm, preventing any scoring chances for the visitors.
It should be noted that just after UPDF scored, goalkeeper Hassan Matovu was dismissed after a verbal exchange with the referee leaving Soltilo Bright Stars with just 10 players on the field for a bigger part of the match.
Despite the loss, Soltilo Bright Stars are still sixth in the standings with 24 points, while UPDF move out of the bottom three and are now ranked 13th with 15 points, three above the danger zone.
The Soltilo Bright Stars will now turn their attention to their upcoming contest against URA FC on 1st April 2023 at Kavumba where they hope to resume their winning ways.
