In a powerful testament to the unifying force of sports, Soltilo Bright Stars FC proudly took part in a football event organized by UN Women, UNHCR, and JICA, as an integral component of the annual campaign to end violence against women and girls. This initiative is part of the broader 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, rallying governments, institutions, and citizens worldwide under the theme “UNITE! Invest to prevent violence against women and girls.”

Our commitment to the cause was vividly demonstrated by the enthusiastic participation of players Odongo Jonathan and Nsereko Sharif, guided by coaches Sula and Masato. Beyond the football field, Soltilo Bright Stars FC seeks to be a catalyst for positive change, aligning with the values upheld by the UN Women’s campaign.

The stark statistics underscore the urgency of addressing this global issue: almost one in three women, totaling 736 million, has experienced physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence, non-partner sexual violence, or both at least once in their lives. Shockingly, more than four in five women and girls (86%) reside in countries without robust legal protection or lack readily available data.

The campaign, bolstered by the Secretary General’s initiative, UNITE by 2030 to End Violence against Women, is a call to action for increased investments in violence prevention. Despite the scale of the problem, financial commitments to prevent violence against women and girls remain limited. Investing in prevention is not only a moral imperative but a strategic necessity to achieve gender equality by 2030, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals.

Soltilo Bright Stars FC recognizes the power of football as a force for positive change. By actively participating in the UN Women-led event, we aim to leverage the sport’s reach and influence to raise awareness about the pervasive issue of violence against women and encourage leaders worldwide to prioritize preventive measures.

The partnership with JICA and other organizations adds depth to our commitment. Collaboratively, we amplify our voice and impact, striving for a future where women and girls can live free from violence. The football event serves as a testament to the collective power of sports, fostering unity, and inspiring positive societal change.

As a football club, we invite our supporters, partners, and the broader community to join us in this crucial endeavor. Together, let’s make every effort count in preventing violence against women, taking significant strides towards a safer, more equal, and prosperous world.
